Two detectors on 5th floor in NSC

We started taking cosmic flux measurement on the 5th floor of the NSC at GSU with two detectors running simultaneously.

I did a quick analysis today and made the following two plots:

1) Counting rate from the QuarkNet detector:

2) Counting rate from the two-paddle detector:

QN Detector on the 5th floor

We just started comparing the counting rates from different detectors on the 5th floor of the NSC building at GSU. The graph above shows the hourly rate from taken by QN detector using the Labview program written by Kanishka.

Measurements in Kell Hall

We now started taking gamma counts in the Kell Hall building of Geaorgia State University. We expect high amount of background radiation exists in this building. Pictures and plots will be posted soon.

Plots with all shielding configurations

The following graphs are plotted using counts taken by both LEG-1 and SPA-3 gamma counters. Furthermore, measurements were taken with all the different shielding configurations as described in the previous posts.

Measurements with shielded gamma counters

Now we take measurements with two shielding arrangements. 1) The detector is fully shielded with lead bricks and 2) The bottom side of the detector is open and other sides are covered. The second shielding configuration is used to check the gamma counts from the floor.

Detector is fully covered with lead bricks

The bottom side of the detector is open but other sides are covered with lead bricks

Mohammad Javani who is a grad student at Physics department of GSU is taking measurments on roof.

Plots with shielded gamma counters

The following graphs were plotted using data from shielded gamma counters(SPA-3 and LEG-1). 3 lead bricks were placed on sides of the counters and one was placed beneath the counters as displayed in the previous pictures. Measurments were taken on different floors of NSC building. 1 and 6 refer to basement and roof of NSC building.
